The North East’s most dangerous places to drive at night revealed

The dangers of driving at night have been laid bare by new statistics. According to the Department of Transport figures, One out of every seven (14.4%) road collisions in the whole of the North East occurred during twilight hours last year – the periods of dawn and dusk, between 5am and 7am or 6pm and 8pm. By comparison, only one in eight (12.9%) happened during the same hours for the months of May to August.

As for the early morning and evening crash proportion among all accidents between 6pm and 7am, they made up 51.3% out of 14,700 incidents between November and February compared to 48.7% out of 28,200 in the months from May to August – indicating that crashes are 2.6% more likely either between 5am and 7am or between 6pm and 8pm.
